Walk-In X-Ray Services

At Pomona Valley Health Centers, we harness the latest technologies to address and treat medical conditions early and successfully. X-ray imaging is one of the many diagnostic tools we employ to screen for medical abnormalities that can become serious if left unaddressed.

At our X-ray center, you’ll have access to various diagnostic imaging services, including:

  • Ultrasound imaging
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Computed tomography (CT)

We accept walk-ins for diagnostic x-ray imaging.

Understanding X-Rays: What Is X-Ray Imaging?

An X-ray, a radiograph, is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure that generates images of the body’s internal structures. X-rays are particularly effective at capturing dense tissue and bone. Radiography utilizes minute quantities of ionizing radiation to visualize the anatomy and detect abnormalities, injuries, infections, musculoskeletal disorders, and other medical anomalies.

While other diagnostic imaging tools provide higher-resolution images, X-ray images are the most accessible imaging tool for most. They are often performed before other imaging solutions like MRI or CT scans.

Digital radiography is the most advanced X-ray technology, providing faster, higher-quality images than traditional X-rays. While the standard X-ray could take approximately 15 minutes to generate images, digital radiology allows physicians to view the images on a computer screen instantly, effectively reducing diagnostic delays and allowing clinicians to administer treatment quickly.

The speed and efficiency of digital radiography are particularly beneficial during medical emergencies. X-ray imaging is widely used for the following:

  • Identifying broken bones
  • Identifying Joint dislocations
  • Identifying foreign objects in soft tissues
  • Identifying kidney stones or gallstones
  • Identifying intestinal perforations
  • Identifying blockages in the intestines.

Digital X-ray imaging offers the following benefits:

  • Technicians can make exposure adjustments in real-time, improving detail and clarity
  • Microscopic fractures and tears can be visualized more easily
  • Images are digitally stored, allowing other medical specialists to access them instantly
  • Digital radiology generates between 80 and 90% less radiation than traditional X-rays.

How to Prepare for X-Ray Imaging

X-rays are typically fast and painless and generally do not require any preparation. Nevertheless, wearing comfortable clothing without jewelry before your appointment is best. You might be asked to wear a gown before the procedure.

What to Expect During Your X-Ray

A registered and certified technologist at the X-ray center will help you in the correct position so that the X-ray can capture the image of the targeted body part. It is important to remain completely still while the images are taken so that the technologist can achieve the most accurate possible view.

Depending upon the area being screened, you might be asked to hold your breath so that the image-capturing process is not disrupted.

After you have been appropriately positioned, the technologist will go into another room to capture the image. Typically, multiple images are taken.

Who Can Have a Diagnostic X-Ray?

X-rays can be given to most people, but there are some considerations to keep in mind, such as:

  • Young children: While X-rays are safe for people of all ages, children are more sensitive to radiation exposure. Repeated or regular radiation exposure may increase their cancer risk.
  • Pregnant individuals: X-rays are generally not recommended during pregnancy unless it is a medical emergency.
  • People with allergies: People allergic to dyes or iodine should notify their radiology care team before having an X-ray.
  • People with kidney problems: Those with kidney issues should talk to their radiology care team before having an X-ray.

Are X-ray services covered by insurance?

Diagnostic X-ray services are generally covered by most health insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Tricare. However, verifying your specific coverage details with your health insurance provider is important. Here are some additional things to consider:

  • Insurance Deductibles
If you have not met your deductible, you may be required to pay the full cost of the X-ray out-of-pocket.
  • Co-insurance and co-pays
Once your deductible is met, you may still need to pay a co-insurance amount or co-pay at the time of your visit.
  • Prior authorization
Certain X-rays may require prior authorization from your health insurance plan.

For the most accurate information, always check with your insurance provider before scheduling your X-ray.

Do you offer X-ray services for emergencies?

  • Pregnancy risk: Radiation exposure may be harmful to a developing fetus.
  • Radiation sensitivity: Higher risk for individuals with certain medical conditions or those who undergo frequent X-rays.
