Whether you require routine exams or treatment for various illnesses and injuries, our clinic caters to individuals of all ages, from infants to seniors. We specialize in managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

As part of the core faculty of the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center’s UCLA School of Medicine-affiliated Family Medicine Residency Program, our board-certified family medicine physicians ensure top-notch care.

At PVHC Pomona, primary care is delivered by resident physicians enrolled in the Hospital’s Family Medicine Residency Program. Under the guidance of our experienced faculty of family physicians, residents gain invaluable experience in the specialty of family practice.

We welcome most HMO, PPO, and EPO insurance plans. We accept various types of insurance, including Medi-Cal and Medicare, and accommodate individuals without insurance.

What is Family Medicine?

Family medicine is a medical specialty that provides comprehensive primary care for individuals of all ages, from infants to elderly patients.

A family physician, known as a family medicine doctor or general practitioner, is trained to address various medical conditions and health concerns across various organ systems and specialties.

The key features of family medicine include:

  • Comprehensive Care: Family medicine provides complete healthcare for people of all ages, from infants to seniors, covering a wide range of medical conditions and concerns.
  • Continuity of Care: Family doctors build long-term relationships with patients, understanding their medical history, lifestyle, and individual needs over time.
  • Preventive Focus: Family medicine emphasizes preventive care, including routine check-ups, vaccinations, and health screenings to maintain wellness and prevent illnesses.
  • Coordination with Specialists: Family physicians coordinate care with specialists and other healthcare professionals as needed, ensuring patients receive appropriate and timely treatment.
  • Holistic Approach: Family doctors consider physical health and psychological, social, and environmental factors affecting a patient's well-being.
  • Community Engagement: Family medicine practitioners are often active members of their communities, providing care in various settings and participating in public health initiatives.

Within family medicine, we proudly provide primary care for the following sub-groups:

Women’s Health

Our family medicine practice provides comprehensive care for women, addressing a range of issues including reproductive health, family planning, menopause management, and breast health screenings.

Men’s Health

We offer personalized care for men, focusing on preventive screenings, management of chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, sexual health, and prostate health evaluations.

Pediatric Care

Our family medicine practice specializes in caring for children of all ages, offering well-child check-ups, vaccinations, developmental screenings, and management of common childhood illnesses.

Preventative Care

We prioritize preventive medicine, offering services such as annual physical exams, screenings for various health conditions, immunizations, and lifestyle counseling to help patients maintain optimal health and well-being.

Geriatric Care

Our practice provides specialized care for older adults, addressing age-related health concerns, managing chronic conditions, promoting functional independence, and coordinating care for complex medical needs.

What is Internal Medicine vs. Family Medicine?

Internal medicine primarily focuses on diagnosing, treating, and managing diseases in adults. Internists specialize in complex medical conditions and undergo three years of residency training. They exclusively care for adults, with the option for sub-specialization in areas like cardiology or gastroenterology.

In contrast, a family medicine center provides comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, from infants to seniors. Family physicians, trained for three years, cover a broad spectrum of medical specialties, including pediatrics and obstetrics. They care for the entire family unit, offering preventive care, acute illness management, and coordination of care within a community context.
